Ontario college film production programs are comprised of highly technical and practical courses that prepare students for a career producing various types of movies. Through the use of cutting-edge technology, courses focus on film production techniques and processes from pre- to post-production, including (but not limited to):

• Sound recording and camera operation
• Directing
• Editing / field editing
• Lighting set-up and photography
• Compositing and finishing

In addition to technical film production courses, most programs include research and writing courses where students create the narrative for their own short films, documentaries or commercials, giving them the experience of creating a piece from start to finish.

General Film Production Program Requirements

Film production programs offered at the certificate and diploma level typically require an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent, which includes a grade 12 English credit.

Some Ontario college film production programs are offered as graduate certificate programs, and require a diploma or a degree from a related program and / or relevant work or educational experience. Submission of a portfolio may also be part of the application process.
