Project Management Courses

Project management programs prepare students to write the Project Management Institute (PMI) exams to become either a Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) or a Project Management Professional (PMP).

Courses in project management programs cover topics like quality management, finance and accounting, operations management, risk management, software and more. Students will also be taught the fundamentals of project management, from the planning and development phase right through to execution and closeout.

A big part of the curriculum in most project management programs is case study; students apply skills gathered from examining real-world cases into simulated projects done in the classroom. A work placement may also be part of the curriculum, giving students the opportunity to learn from professionals in the industry.

General Project Management Program Requirements

Ontario college project management programs are offered at the post-graduate level, so a diploma or a degree will be required. Demonstrated work or educational experience may be considered in lieu of credentials and is always seen as an asset.

Project Management Jobs and Salaries

There’s a need for project managers in just about every industry, so graduates will have many opportunities for work at the end of their program. Some of the popular industries that rely on project managers include (but aren’t limited to):

Media

Because of the advanced level of knowledge and training needed to fill project manager positions, salaries are usually very high. The average starting salary range for graduates is between $38,000 and $56,000 per year. Certified PMPs can have salaries that fall between $85,000 and $120,000, depending on position, organization and experience.
