Pre-Technology Programs at Ontario Colleges

Pre-Technology Courses

Pre-technology programs give students hands-on experience in a number of technology areas, such as programming, engineering, electronics and more. Lab work and training with AutoCAD and other computer-assisted technology is emphasized.

Along with exploration of the technology industry, students take courses in math, physics and chemistry to upgrade their knowledge to meet entrance requirements for the Ontario college technology programs of their choice.

Note: Some Ontario colleges will combine pre-trades and pre-technology programs into one for further career exploration into both industries.

General Pre-Technology Program Requirements

Ontario college pre-technology programs typically require an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent. Additional academic requirements will vary by program, but will likely include a grade 12 English and select mathematics and physics credits.

Pre-Technology Jobs and Salaries

It is possible to enter the workplace in an entry-level position with a pre-technology credential, however most students continue their education in a pre-technology program. Possible areas of continued study include:

• Biological and chemical programs
• Mechanical and industrial programs
• Computer engineering programs

For graduates who choose to enter the workforce, most jobs available will be entry level, and salaries will reflect that.
