Behavioural Science Courses

Behavioural science programs focus on teaching cognitive behaviour therapy and counselling to help treat a number of conditions, from kids acting out in class to people recovering from brain injuries and more. Students will study developmental psychopathology, behavioural assessment, counselling, intervention techniques and more to help understand and analyze various behavioural conditions and also to prepare for volatile or difficult work situations.

Some Ontario college behavioural science programs will focus heavily on the treatment of ASD – Autism Spectrum Disorder. These programs will provide a broad understanding of autism and its related conditions, and will use courses in behavioural skill building, behaviour treatment, parent and staff training, crisis intervention and more to help graduates prepare for treatment of individuals who suffer from autism.

General Behavioural Science Program Requirements

Ontario college behavioural science programs typically require an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent, which includes a grade 12 English credit. Additional academic requirements will vary by program, but may include senior math and science credits.

Autism and behavioural science programs are typically offered as one-year graduate certificate programs, which means completion of a diploma or degree is also required.
