Holistic Courses

Holistic programs include a variety of complementary care areas, including:

• Aromatherapy – the use of essential oils and plant extracts in baths and massage.
• Craniosacral Therapy – working the spine, cranial sutures, fascia and diaphragms to ease tension of nerves, realign bones and promote spinal fluid movement.
• Reflexology – a practice involving massaging and applying pressure to the feet, hands and ears.
• Therapeutic Touch – an energy therapy that involves placing hands on or near patients to help detect and manipulate energy to reduce pain and promote healing.

Additional subjects cover more conventional aspects of health care, including nutrition, anatomy and pathophysiology.

Community and clinical placements are also an important part of the curriculum in holistic programs, giving students the opportunity to practice their skills and apply their knowledge in the real world.

General Holistic Program Requirements

Ontario college holistic programs are typically offered as graduate certificate programs, which means completion of a diploma or degree program in a related field (such as health care or community services) is required.

Non-academic requirements may include CPR certification, vaccination documentation, an interview and a background check. Additional criteria may also be required.

Holistic Jobs and Salaries

Graduates of holistic programs have the option to practice independently, but may also choose to pursue career opportunities in a variety of established facilities, including (but not limited to):

• Chiropractic practices
• Naturopathic practices
• Health care clinics
• Long term health care facilities

Salaries in the field vary and can run as high as $60,000 a year or more with proper licensing and certification.
