Auto body repair training is a great option for those with an interest in mechanics who want to get into the working world quickly, or for those who wish to pursue an auto body apprenticeship. Auto body repair programs at Ontario colleges teach practical skills that can lead to a number of careers in the auto body and auto parts industry, from mechanical work to service and support.

If you’re interested in learning about auto body repair training and the opportunities it can open for you, here’s what you need to know.

Auto Body Repair Courses

Auto body repair programs are generally designed for people with limited experience working with cars. A portion of the curriculum is dedicated to learning about mechanical systems, automobile parts and functions, and workplace safety.

A large portion of class time is also spent in hands-on training, learning and practicing techniques such as:

  • Refinishing procedures
  • Prepping for paint
  • Body and frame repair
  • Welding

General Auto Body Repair Program Requirements

Ontario college auto body repair programs typically require an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent.

It’s important to note that some or all of the credits earned in an auto body repair program may be used toward an auto body apprenticeship, should a graduate wish to continue their education in that way.

Auto Body Repair Jobs and Salaries

Auto body repair graduates can find work in a number of areas in the automotive industry, including (but not limited to):

  • Parts Technicians
  • Auto Body Apprentices
