Careers in Demand

Picture yourself...building the world.

If the idea of a desk job has you feeling boxed in, celebrity tradesperson Mike Holmes says it best: "Think outside the cubicle."

There are hundreds of options out there that can have you on your feet, working with your hands, and building a career that's both challenging and rewarding as you see your hard work paying off right before your eyes. It's no wonder that many skilled trades and technology workers report high levels of job satisfaction.

The skilled trades not only offer plenty of career options, but also thousands of available jobs. With nearly half of the workforce eligible to retire in coming years, the demand for trades workers has never been higher. In the construction trades alone, over 200,000 jobs will need to be filled over the next decade by smart, skilled people.

Red Seal Trades

A career in trades not only lets you dodge the cubicle life, it also gives you the freedom to work anywhere in Canada. The Red Seal program is the national standard of excellence for skilled trades in Canada, and with a Red Seal endorsement, certified tradespeople can apply for jobs nationwide, without the need to complete additional testing to prove their skills.

There are more than 50 designated Red Seal trades, including cook, cabinetmaker, industrial electrician, landscape horticulturist, tool and die maker, and many more.
