Life at Loyalist
Make the most of your College experience. Your time at Loyalist offers lots of opportunities to get involved, make friends and build memories. We offer a unique combination of social and extracurricular activities and career-oriented programs in contemporary facilities. Here are a few of the areas where Loyalist students learn and socialize.
Renovated Northumberland Wing
The newly renovated third floor of the Northumberland Wing in the Kente Building, home of Health & Wellness programs at Loyalist, is where students and faculty from Health & Wellness and other disciplines collaborate on innovative programming, projects and applied research. Updated in 2018, this experiential learning space includes an interprofessional simulation centre, high-tech classroom environments, and state-of-the-art student spaces for collaboration and social engagement.
Digital Media Centre
The 10,000 sq. ft. integrated newsroom features video editing suites, a television studio, interview booths, audio production booths and meeting rooms. It’s used by several Media Studies programs to create content for QNet News, an award-winning online community news service with coverage throughout the Bay of Quinte region, and for the award-winning Pioneer publication. Content is generated across multiple platforms – from radio and television to print and online. Students are on the cutting edge of experiential learning as they gather and distribute high-quality news and information within an ever-changing media landscape.
The Bay of Quinte Skills Centre
Demand for workers in the skilled trades keeps building. That’s why Loyalist prepares its graduates to meet that need with ultra-modern facilities and hands-on training using the latest technology. Our newly-equipped Biosciences labs and skilled trades workshops are part of our 121,800 sq. ft. LEED® Silver certified The Bay of Quinte Skills Centre.
The Link Lounge
This space features a living wall that cultivates a self-sustaining 25 ft. vertical garden of about 300 plants creating a biofilter system to improve air quality, and has a number of glass-enclosed study pods.
Loyalist’s Student Government enriches the lives of students with a variety of programs and services, welcoming facilities and amazing social and recreational events. The Student Centre offers daytime and evening events, dining and study area, lounge space, Tim Hortons, pool tables, big-screen movies and an outdoor patio.
Indigenous Resource Centre
Committed to supporting Indigenous students on campus, the well-equipped Centre acts as a liaison between College administration, Indigenous communities and government agencies. It provides pre-admission counselling, new student orientation, student academic counselling, peer tutoring, mentor referral, and special Indigenous Students’ Circle activities and events.
