Ontario College Faculty Labour Negotiations

Last updated: November 11, 2024

As you may be aware, the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) representing faculty at Ontario’s 24 public colleges and the College Employer Council (CEC) – the provincial bargaining agent for the colleges – are currently in negotiations regarding a new collective agreement.

In October, college faculty voted in favour of taking strike action if necessary. This vote does not mean college faculty will go on strike. The union must provide five days’ notice for any planned labour action.

The CEC and OPSEU will meet in mediation between December 6 and 8. OPSEU has agreed not to take job action before or during mediation.

Information for College Applicants

The labour negotiations only affect college faculty, such as professors, instructors, and librarians.

There’s no impact on college admissions processes. OCAS and the colleges are continuing to accept applications and send offers of admission as usual.

Information for College Students

It’s normal for students to have concerns about the effects of a potential labour disruption on their studies.

Ontario’s colleges remain committed to student success and will make every effort to ensure students can complete their semester in the event of a labour disruption.

Visit college websites for answers to common questions for students and their families. For detailed information on your specific situation, we recommend contacting the colleges directly.
